Spotted in the Collection: this photograph of a vintage Courier 96 “golf ball” comes from "Language," a book designed by David Lancashire Design for Dalton Fine Papers. Each page showcases different paper stocks, design, illustration and printing techniques – this page celebrates Courier, the iconic typeface designed by Howard Kettler (1919-1999) for IBM in the 1950s.

Kettler almost called the font “Messenger” but decided “Courier” better captured the dignity and stability he wanted the font to convey. Today, Courier is in the public domain and still going strong in countless digital variants.
