First Look: Loku Brings “Sri Lanka’s Real Taste” to Northcote Find classics including roast paan, 12 curries and a coconut custard pudding for dessert as well as unique creations like a Sinhalese curry-inspired betel leaf taco.

When you eat at Loku, you’re welcomed into owner Lanka Imiyaarachchige’s home to enjoy the food she cooks for her family. “Since my mother opened the restaurant, I have to come here to eat the food I used to get easily at home,” says Anju Marasingha, one of her children. The menu is filled with Sri Lankan classics, including 12 types of curries and lamprais (a dish from the Dutch colonial era that’s “Sri Lanka on a plate”). Her creativity also comes out in full force – from the betel leaf tacos to her own version of falooda, an ice-cream dessert with basil seeds and rose syrup.
