Whatâs your Friday answer?
If youâre working on a project, you should always challenge yourself to write down your âFriday answerâ. Thatâs the answer you would give if someone asked you the question: âBased on what you know right now, whatâs the answer to the problem youâre trying to solve?â Another word for this is your hypothesis.
Challenging yourself to write this down does a number of things:
1. It means if a stakeholder asks you how your project is going, you can give them a good answer thatâs focused on insights vs. a status update on the work youâve done.
2. It helps you check in on your progress and whether all the work/analysis youâre doing is actually getting you closer to an answer.
3. It can help you reprioritise work. If you realise your Friday answer is almost right but is lacking evidence in a particular area, you can change your focus for the following week to get closer to a well rounded answer.
4. It gives you something to test with your team! Do they agree that this is the best answer based on what you know, or do they have evidence to suggest otherwise?
You should challenge yourself to write down your âFriday answerâ at the end of every week! The Monday version of yourself will definitely thank you.
