Fred Vautour is a father of five who worked the night shift as a janitor at Boston College so his children could get a life-changing opportunity, attending BC tuition-free. Because of a university policy, if you’re an employee and your kids are accepted, you don’t pay tuition.

Over about two decades, all five of Fred’s children were admitted and graduated, saving the family nearly $700,000 in tuition.

Despite working long, quiet hours cleaning campus buildings overnight, Fred treated every mop, scrub, and every acceptance letter as steps toward something bigger.

When the youngest walked across the stage, the circle was complete, and the sacrifice clearly paid off.
