REST is a community program, encouraging people (including myself) who are working from home, to take the time during the day, to just stop, step away from the work day to REST & reset, all for better mental and physical wellbeing.
More than ever, while still working from home, it can be challenging to pull oneself away from that work screen, when a break is much needed. There’s something about being closer to our desks within the home, that have us less disciplined at taking time out.
Given that we are now two years into working from home, we have seen that this can have detrimental effects by not stopping properly during 9 to 5. Poor productivity, screen fatigue, irritation with others, poor sleep, and over all poor physical and mental wellbeing to mention a few.
I’m not going to throw a list of stats at you, we’ve all seen and heard enough of them over the past 24 months, we know taking time out is essential and packed with benefits.
So this where I come in with REST. I care about my resting time and my wellbeing and I care about yours too. And that’s why I’m inviting you to come join my community program REST.
What I'm simply proposing is that you just take 5 to 15 minutes each day, to just stop and REST. No screens, no TV, no sitting in ear or eye distance of your laptop, NO phones. Just stop, switch off from work and sit!
Did you just have an internal panic attack and think ‘how the hell am I going to do that?
Well it takes practice, as we can’t stop that little voice in our head (101 emails right?) but what we can do is create an awareness around the ‘importance ‘of taking time out, ‘how' we take time out and ‘what are we thinking about’ in our REST time.
Starting this month, I am inviting you all to create a space in your home, garden or balcony, where you can REST. Make sure you are away from your work space (no screens). Make it comfy and personal to you!
Sit quietly, read a book (non-work related) listen to your favourite tunes, meditate, pat your cat, slow breathing, stretching, or sit in simple silence. You get the jist!
It can be as little as 5 to 15 minutes a day and the plan is create more time for yourself as each week passes until you hit a REST time, that really works for you.
You got this!
Building a REST community:
I’d also love you share this with your co-workers, family and friends, and together we can all get that little bit better at taking time out for ourselves and start enjoying the benefits of REST, and as a community.
