✨The first stage of the Trees for Schools 2025 planting project at Daylesford Dharma School is now complete, with around 390 plants established. As summer approaches, our focus will be on watering and supporting the young plants to ensure the best possible outcome.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and in-kind-support, the GFM appeal has exceeded expectations. After expenses $750 remains, allowing us to consider more planting in Autumn 2026! So we will close the appeal at $2,916 as of 11th December.

Thank you again to all involved Workers, teachers, parents, students and donors. Without you this project wouldn't have come to life for the school community.

🌱 Daylesford Dharma School student’s begin their Trees for Schools journey! 🌱

What a beautiful day for the Trees for Schools 2025 project at Daylesford Dharma School! ☀️ On a gorgeous, sunny 6th of November, students stepped into an inspiring nature-based learning experience, spending time outdoors, learning - creating, and connecting with Country.

Around twelve enthusiastic students rolled up their sleeves and planted 50 new native plants across the school grounds. Even, Barry, our fur friend and regular planting team member, stole a few hearts along the way. 🐶💚

This day was about so much more than planting trees. Along the nature path, students confidently presented their learnings, showcasing curiosity, care, and a deepening connection to the environment around them.

The children and planting team also designed and built small water interception basins to capture runoff- an impressive demonstration of sustainable thinking and real world problem solving in action. These hands-on lessons showed just how powerful thoughtful design can be in supporting a healthy, thriving ecosystem.

👏 We are so proud of their teamwork, creativity, and commitment to caring for the land.

🌿 165 trees planted so far!
🌿 Next Planting Day: 19th November

We can’t wait to see what grows next, both in the earth, and in the hearts of these young environmental stewards. 💚

Growing a greener future: Trees for Schools 2025 at Daylesford Dharma School

🦋 In a world where children are increasingly distanced from the natural environment, Trees for Schools 2025 offers a hands-on opportunity to reconnect with nature while restoring local biodiversity and ecosystems.

🧬🔬🌿 This project brings science to life, giving students the chance to explore areas such as ecology, biodiversity, local habitats and the animals that depend on them.

🎯Thanks to our generous donors, we’ve already reached over 50% of our $3,500 GoFundMe target! The students at Daylesford Dharma School are deeply grateful to everyone who shares their passion for trees, animals and insects.

🌳 Imagine a schoolyard transformed into a thriving ecosystem, alive with the hum of insects, the flutter of butterflies and the rustle of native trees grasses. Among the species the students will plant is Kangaroo Grass (Themeda triandra), a resilient native plant that supports at least 13 species of butterflies and moths. It also provides essential habitat for insects, which in turn nourish lizards and, perhaps one day, even echidnas.

💙 This project is more than just planting trees – it’s about inspiring curiosity, fostering a love for science and empowering children to make a positive impact on their environment. With your support, we can help students grow their understanding of the natural world and create a lasting legacy for local ecosystems.

Who else agrees with these wise and timely words?

Being a consumer is hard to avoid in this day and age. However, together we can shift our focus to being caretakers and stewards of the natural environment around us.
