Over the past few weeks, I've found myself having the same conversation with several clients.

We'll be sitting together, looking through samples and inspiration images, and someone will inevitably ask, "Do you think this will date?"

It's such a good question.

With Pinterest, Instagram and magazines constantly showcasing the "next big thing", it's easy to feel like our homes should keep up with every new trend. But the truth is, most of us aren't renovating every few years.

When you invest in your home, you want to love it for a long time.

That's always at the front of my mind when I'm designing.

Of course, I keep up with trends—I actually love seeing what's emerging in the design world. New materials, finishes and clever products are one of the joys of my job. But I don't believe every trend deserves a place in every home.

The best homes, in my opinion, aren't the trendiest ones.

They're the ones that still feel beautiful years later.
