Is your lawn under attack from lawn grub or army worm?

The first test is to lay a wet towel, hessian bag or piece of carpet on the lawn overnight. In the morning, lift it up and see if anything has come to the surface and is underneath it.

The second test is to mix together a bucket of soapy water and pour it over the edge of an affected area. Keep any eye on it and after about 10 minutes or so, usually if there are grubs there, they will come to the surface. This is best done at dawn or dusk when they are most likely to be active.

The below images are an example of the damage an armyworm attack can have on a lawn. The image on the left is of a lawn after it has been attacked and completely stripped of all green leaf material. Fortunately with most lawns, they will recover and bounce back once the infestation has been treated.

The image on the right is after the armyworm has been treated and the lawn has significantly recovered.
