✨ Member Review: Experimenting with Clicformers and Magformers

“My son, aged 10, enjoys fiddling with magnetic tiles while reading or watching videos, using them somewhat as a fidget toy. This leads to the creation of aesthetically pleasing geometric shapes in 2D or 3D (which also sneakily reinforces the concepts of 2D nets folding into 3D shapes).

Naturally, this eventually leads to making wearable creations or handy containers to store errant pieces.

But borrowing two sets of similar building toys poses the question: can we make the same shapes with the two sets? How are they different? Why can we do certain things with one set but not with the other? How many more pieces, and what type of pieces, does one set need to have in order to create the same structure?

Then we moved on to the experimentation phase: which structure breaks apart first when dropped from a height, and how high does that need to be? (not that I’m advocating throwing toys around!)

I wonder what questions you will find yourselves asking when you borrow these toys!”

Kew Toy Library held a special morning tea for our wonderful community volunteers and committee members in celebration of National Volunteer Week.

It was a lovely opportunity to acknowledge and thank the many people who support our Toy Library by generously sharing their time, skills, and expertise. Our Toy Library simply wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they do for our community. 💛

Happy National Volunteer Week!

Each year we take a moment to thank all of the volunteers that help keep Kew Toy Library running. From our committee of management to our member volunteers and our amazing team of community volunteers that are so generous with their time helping support each session and do so much wonderful work behind the scenes - we couldn’t do it without you!

This year’s theme is Your Year To Volunteer, if you’ve ever wanted to get more involved and volunteer at the toy library feel welcome to have a chat with our staff on your next visit about all the ways to get involved.
