MEDIA RELEASE: It’s Raining!
BRISBANE - United Australia Party Chairman Clive Palmer said the persistent wet weather in Brisbane had highlighted the growing crisis of homelessness and food insecurity across Australia.
Mr Palmer said while the heavy rain was causing inconvenience for many Brisbane residents, conditions were far worse for Australians sleeping rough or struggling to feed their families.
“This rain is inconvenient for most people, but for the homeless it is chaos,” Mr Palmer said.
“There are thousands of Australians with no roof over their head to keep them dry and no certainty about where their next meal is coming from.”
Mr Palmer said the situation reflected a broader failure by government to address rising living costs and growing hardship.
“When it rains, I think deeply about these people. It is troubling that a country as wealthy as Australia is not doing more to support those doing it toughest,” he said.
Mr Palmer said the Albanese Government needed to refocus its priorities and provide immediate budget assistance to Australians facing hardship.
“It’s time the Prime Minister and the Government put struggling Australians first,” he said.
“Instead of spending $600 million on a rugby league team in Papua New Guinea, the Government should immediately redirect $200 million to Foodbank so hungry Australians can be fed.”
Mr Palmer said cost-of-living pressures continued to push more families into crisis and called for urgent action to address homelessness and food insecurity.
