Some moments from our Stronger Together community session held last month.

Bringing people together and creating space for open conversations is an important part of creating change. Our Multicultural Ambassadors played a key role in making the event a success, reaching into their communities and network and encouraging workers from diverse backgrounds to come along.

Throughout the evening, participants shared their lived experiences, spoke about the realities of working in Australia, and discussed the changes they believe are needed to better support migrant workers. These conversations continue to inform our work and strengthen our commitment to supporting migrant workers across Tasmania.

Yesterday, we attended the Migrant Network Showcase 2026, hosted by the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania (MRC Tas).

The event brought together job seekers, skilled migrants, employers and industry leaders, with attendees hearing from guest speakers, exploring career pathways and building new professional connections.

We had some great conversations throughout the networking session about workplace rights, visa-related protections and the free support available through the Migrant Work Rights Hub.

Thanks to the Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania for organising a great event and for the opportunity to connect with so many members of Tasmania's migrant community.

Today marks the beginning of NAIDOC Week.

This year's theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates five decades of recognising the history, cultures, achievements and enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As an organisation supporting migrant workers, we recognise the privilege of living and working on the lands of the First Peoples of Australia. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country, pay our respects to Elders past and present, and stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as they celebrate this important week.

Happy NAIDOC Week.

50 years of Deadly 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Here’s to 50,000 more ❤️💛🖤💙🤍💚

It was great to meet Elizabete Ozola, Project Officer – Migrant Experiences at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG), yesterday for a private guided tour of Becoming Modern.

The exhibition explores the contribution of migrants to modern Australia through the stories of artists whose lives and work were shaped by migration, displacement and resilience. It was great to hear about the people and stories that inspired the exhibition.

Thank you, Elizabete, for the warm welcome and the insightful tour.

It was a pleasure to join the Indonesian Community in Hobart on Saturday for the DIAL Special – Hobart event, where we had the opportunity to speak about workplace rights, visa protections and the free support available through the Migrant Work Rights Hub Tasmania for temporary visa holders.

A big thank you to the Indonesian Community in Tasmania (ICT Tasmania ) for organising such a welcoming event, and to the Indonesian Consulate in Melbourne and Sydney for bringing the community together and inviting us to be part of the program.

We enjoyed meeting everyone and look forward to continuing to support Tasmania's Indonesian community.

Earlier this month, we welcomed migrant workers on temporary visas for our Stronger Together community session.

A big thank you to our incredible Multicultural Ambassadors, who reached out to their networks and communities and encouraged people to come along.

The evening was filled with conversations about participants' experiences of working in Australia. Participants shared what has gone well at work, the challenges they've faced, and what they think needs to change. Hearing directly from workers helps us better understand their experiences and ensures our work continues to respond to the issues that matter most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to a meaningful discussion. We look forward to continuing these conversations and working together to support migrant workers across the state.

At our Know Your Workplace Rights session at UTAS last month, we were joined by representatives from HACSU, NTEU, UWU and SDA to talk about workplace rights, support available through unions, and why it’s important for workers to know their rights.

In this video, you’ll hear directly from union representatives about the role unions play in supporting workers and helping to create safer and fairer workplaces.

Here’s what they had to say.

A part-time job can help students gain experience and support themselves while studying. It should also come with fair pay and safe working conditions.

Late last month, we joined students at UTAS for a Know Your Workplace Rights session to share practical information about workplace rights, visa protections, and where to get help if something goes wrong at work.

If you’re an international student in Tasmania and have questions about your rights at work, you can reach out to us for a free confidential chat.
