Pinan Shodan || Wado Karate Pinan Shodan || Kata Pinan Shodan for Beginners

Pinan Shodan is the first of the Pinan Kata series created and developed by Otsuka sensei. This kata is often one of the first kata introduced to beginners in any of the styles of Karate influenced by Shurite, including Wado Ryu, Shotokan, Sh*to Ryu etc. This kata is also known as Heian Shodan (sometimes Nidan) in some Shotokan schools. Gichin Funakoshi changed the name from the more Chinese and Okinawn sounding Pinan to the more Japanese Heian.

This video is specifically for beginners and covers the basic movements of the solo form of the kata and as such is not intended for more experienced practitioners.
