/////////// Race 6 and Season Winners ////////////
Congratulations to the volunteers, to our competitors, their support crew and to whoever it is who organises the weather. Another fantastic effort all round.
We finished with another fast day which saw 5 scullers go under 6 minutes with Xavier posting the best time of the series with a blistering 5:33. Callum was our fastest Tub at 7:00 flat and Rio was our fastest lady with 6:31, which was a great way for those two to stamp their authority on the event.
The other people who posted times that were fast enough were our heat winners; Ian, Tracey, Angus, Elizabeth and Bridget. A fantastic effort.
We also crowned our overall series winners, who, through attending every event and showing consistent improvement amassed the most points.
The winner of the Yurangie Cup for racing boats was Rio Smith. It was a close run with Xavier and Zander ending up just a few points behind and the competition not decided until the last race. Rio’s sustained top end of the field performance and her win last week gave her the slight advantage that won the day! A fantastic effort.
The winner of the Winter Sculling shield for Tub Boats was Callum Foley. At the beginning of the season Rob Heath was the firm favourite but in the last couple of races Callum showed his improving form and the win in race 5 lifted him to a winning position. Excellent work!
But wait! There is:
Sculler’s Head of the Barwon : Next Saturday August 9 is the over 4.5km from Queen’s Park back to our regular finish at the judges box. Entries now open in Trybooking so if you want ot be a part of that fun – please enter now. Here is the link: https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing/1440983
A huge thank you to our team of volunteers who stood tall to bring us a safe and enjoyable series and a special thank you to the people who really run the show: Ian, Claire Kate and Andrew.

//// Winter Series Race 5 ////

Another beautiful day greeted Race 5 with generally neutral conditions that were neither fast nor slow, but just right! They certainly suited the Bailey boys and Will Gilbert who all posted 5-minute times with Will leading the way at 5:40. Lilly Canfield who was visiting from Mercantile was our fastest lady at 6:22 and Quentin was our fastest Tub on 7:47. Will’s time was good enough to secure the heat win and the other prize winners were Callum, Redmond, David, Megan and Rio.

Rio’s win has put her at the top of the table for the Yurangie Cup on 51 points and Xavier, who was in a tie for first place, still holds second place but 5 points back. There are still 8 people who are within winning range so there’s no time to rest. In the Tub boats Callum has made his move and taken the lead in the competition for the Geelong Shield on 46 points. Ron and Lillia just 5 points back with Tracy and Quentin also in contention so things are close in the Tubs too! As my old coach used to say, “The first 1500m is just transport to the start of the race!”
