G E E L O N G - Our dirty little secret may be out! Melbourne people have ‘Regional’ typed into their Google search and may have discovered all the great things Geelong has to offer and that we can no longer keep to ourselves. With Melbourne locked in and us out, we have a brief opportunity to get back to our Sassy little City for a little taste of the good life. Before the new Covid normal hits our city. I don’t know about you but I’m keeping my friend pod small. They are my up close and personal support crew.
In this interim, I’m excited to explore our city with them and enjoy our great wine bars, cafés, and restaurants with a sense of safety However, after lockdown ends, I did consider heading into the bush for some free camping while the Covid Coovies spread. What is most pressing is I need to make sure I’m healthy for Christmas, so I can catch up with extended family & friends. One thing is for sure we are all going to encounter someone with the Covid. If we are fully vaccinated, we either do not catch it or we get a mild form, isolate, then go on living? The odds are with us!
I pondered what was the best strategy, be bold and go out in the world or go camping? Well, I jumped on Google and did a bit of CSI work. OK! Too many numbers. So, I resorted to Our World in Data which paints pretty charts, from legit stats and references them for you. What I gathered from the picture it painted was. All the countries with the highest vaccinations rates, all the lines are heading down, Mask wearing works, those countries that have similar vax rates that are open and still wearing masks, numbers are lower, those open without masks, cases are higher per Million. It didn’t really answer my question of coming across Covid’s path sooner or later?
Luckily, in Geelong we have an abundance of safer choices of open-air dining options, beer selection gardens, decks and of course there is the foodie strip in Lt. Malop St and the Waterfront. Don’t forget to book, if you miss out? You still have the option to Take away and dine picnic style on our exquisite foreshore. For those with the same hesitations, we are safer than most, so grab your mask, be bold, be safe and embrace the new normal!
