This exhibition is a mesmerising personal account of leaving, losing, and finding anew. The female figures in McCaughey’s work act as ciphers — obsessed with the possibility of fleshly flight, or with restructuring the fabric of the world anew, but never quite arriving. It is a quiet grief for the world and family left behind, held alongside the knowledge that thousands of people relocate, readjust, and reassemble, building new worlds from the ashes of the old. It also celebrates the indomitability of the human spirit that adapts and survives. McCaughey began the process for this body of work in 2000, when she left Ireland, and it has taken all these years to grow into reality.
