Back in April I was about to start a bit of a clean bulk. Put myself into a calories surplus (focusing on nutritious foods) and keep intensity up in the gym with training focused on progressive overload. I was pumped, ready and excited to get the gains. May came and my world came crashing down when my wife and I lost our little baby boy Tate at 39 weeks pregnant. That clean bulk I started ended up being very dirty. Training in the gym came to a complete halt and my daily steps were lucky to hit 5,000 on a good day.

So then I found myself easily consuming 4 - 6000 calories a day, barely moving and definitely not training. Motivation at an all time low and for the first time in my life finding comfort in food and lots of it.

After a bit of counselling and amazing support, my head space is much better to focus once again on my physical and mental health.

For the next 12 weeks I will be joining in with everyone doing our challenge to get back on track and feeling and looking my absolute best. To do this I will start calorie counting and tracking, absolutely smashing it in the gym again and moving my ass every day.

Just like every other human, if I over consume calories and eat in a surplus consistently I WILL gain BodyFat. The fact that I have done little to no exercise and movement just accelerated that BodyFat gain.

Iβm not ashamed as I know it was the right thing at the time for me to just get through the day. Although my heart hurts my head is clear and I am ready to feel amazing again, just in time for summer.

1. Energy balance, Volume / Intensity and progressive overload are all you need to worry about when it comes to nutrition and training.
2. Sleep. Get it right, prioritise it. It is your best pre work out and your best recovery.
3. You donβt have to be perfect, after all no one is. Just be consistently good enough. 100% for 3 months wont bring you anywhere near the results 75% for 12 months will.
4. Influences first thought is $$ donβt buy anything unless you know they are genuinely out to help you. Or you go searching for something specific. Donβt let someone get you with their discount code.
5. Itβs the year for building the body you want. Get a coach, learn to eat in a maintenance and a surplus. Lift some weights and aim to increase over the next few months. Your body will thank you.
