Understanding window certification, and why getting it wrong is costly, but getting it right you get a great product.
Not all windows are created equal. And, not all windows are compliant even when the suppliers say they are.
Using uncertified windows on a project can trigger a chain of problems that far outweigh any upfront savings:
❌ Failed inspections ❌ Council rejection at practical completion ❌ Insurance claims voided ❌ Personal liability for the builder ❌ Ripping out and replacing product at your own cost......It happens
So what should you look for?
✅AS 2047 certification ✅ Wind load ratings matched to your site's wind zone ✅ Actual test reports (not just a brochure spec sheet) ✅ A clear documentation trail, test certificates matching certification certificates. Register on the JAS/ANZ website
Certification is for each model NOT THE FACTORY, so just because they have certification for a window doesn't mean they one you are getting is compliant.

Negotiations…

Most things are negotiable and it’s all part of the deal. Some products have more room to move than others, but one thing that’s important is respect.

Everyone wants a good price, but remember you may need after sales support, warranty help, replacements, or urgent assistance down the track. Strong supplier relationships matter just as much as the deal itself.
Push hard when needed, but keep the relationship healthy. The best deals are built on trust, respect, and both sides making money.
Consult your buyers agent when needed. They are there to help you navigate negotiations, avoid costly mistakes, and build the right supplier relationships.

Hi all it's Ash, another week on the ground in China 🇨🇳 — and it was a big one.

I've been deep in factory vetting mode on behalf of Chinabuildadvisory.com clients, and the effort was absolutely worth it. Factory inspection isn't just a box to tick, it's where you separate the suppliers worth partnering with from the ones that look great on paper but fall short in reality.

And this is exactly why proper certification matters so much. It's not enough to take a factory's word for it, hearsay and self-reported credentials simply don't cut it. We verify everything firsthand. Certifications need to be legitimate, current, and actually reflective of what's happening on the factory floor. You'd be surprised how often the two don't match.

After a thorough week of inspections, I'm pleased to say we have some outstanding new factories joining our vetted list. More options, higher confidence, better outcomes for our clients.

Due diligence is everything when it comes to China sourcing. If you want to get it right, you need someone on the ground.
