Meet Tayla, an integral part of Hummingbird House, who has been a part of our team since 2022 in a variety of different roles!
As an Allied Health Assistant and the House's Activities and Events Coordinator, every hour of every day looks different for Tayla, but it's something she cherishes. "There's never a dull moment and absolutely everything I do, I do to brighten the day of our guests and their families!"
For Tayla, it's the small things that bring her joy. Like sharing a cup of tea with a family staying at the House, organising a romantic date night for parents, or getting messy in our arts and crafts space with a guest. "I think all of it has impact and is something that may not get to happen at home. It's what makes Hummingbird House so special." she shares.
Organising events at Hummingbird House is Tayla's superpower. "Anyone who has been to a Hummingbird House Christmas party knows I run around like a human cyclone, but I always take the time to stop and take in the day, even just for a minute. Watching the families catch up, enjoy Christmas music and meet Santa in a setting they know is safe for their child makes me so happy. Creating the space for them to be exactly who they are, engage authentically and just relax is something I take great pride in. I hope it has the impact on families that it does on me."
To anyone out there who might be thinking of taking up a role in the paediatric palliative care space, she has this to say: "Don't let the words 'paediatric palliative care' scare you. It's an honour to know and walk alongside the families that we do, to the point that once you are here, you won't want to leave."
A big thank you to Tayla for a wonderful four and a half years with us! 💜🎉

One of the best parts of the work we do at Hummingbird House is getting to see the lives we touch, and the kindness that ripples through our community.
Jodie first heard about Hummingbird House through her mum. Her immediate instinct was to support us in an act of kindness that we never expected. At Educare on Anson, she mobilised families—people with young children who understood all too well the importance of family and community—and gave back to us in her own way.
We're so grateful to Jodie and all the wonderful families at Educare on Anson for their incredibly generous donation of goods to Hummingbird House. Thank you for helping us create comfort, care, and special moments for families during some of their most challenging times. 💜

Four years ago, Glenn and Michelle started the American Truck and Van Jamboree—a celebration of travel across Australia for American truck and caravan enthusiasts. Each May, the group come together, set a fundraising goal, and donate proceeds from the event to a charity of their choice.
This year was a special year for the couple, as Hummingbird House was chosen as their charity of choice, which happens to be the place their daughter Tayla works! Even more special was watching their community rally behind Hummingbird House to smash their initial fundraising goal of $10,000, to raise a whopping $37,000! 🤯
"I couldn't even imagine what these families are going through," says Ros, part of the Jamboree planning committee. "I seriously didn’t think this place would affect me, but I left with tears in my eyes."
The Jamboree family rallied behind this year's cause in lots of different ways, including hired band Forbidden Road auctioning off their services to help raise funds for us. While the Jamboree typically supports a different charity each year, Glenn and Michelle have chosen to break their tradition and support Hummingbird House again in 2027!
"With the support we've seen for Hummingbird House and the emotion we see in our campers, we're going to continue our support, and everyone is welcome!" Glen says.
We're incredibly humbled by the outpouring of care and compassion shown to the families we walk alongside and immensely thankful for the Jamboree's support 💜 To be a part of the 2027 Jamboree, follow the team of their socials and get involved. 🚚🎉

We’re so excited to unveil the refreshed family accommodation after 10 years of holding special memories. These walls have supported countless families to spend precious time together - and now they’ve been given new life.
Thanks to the generosity of Sonya Treloar and the Pink & Pearls for a Purpose event, returning this August, the space now features new hallway flooring, updated kitchen cabinetry, and more. We hope every family who stays feels even more at home, supported, and cared for.
There’s still more we’d love to do. Our 2026 Tax Appeal is now live, if you’re able, please support via the link in the comments. 💜
