In 2013, for the Centenary of Canberra, Belconnen Arts Centre is producing Portrait of a Nation: Unmade Edges, Distinctive Places - a site-specific project across six locations. Artists have commenced work on their projects which respond to place naming and history to uncover the stories of each place.
The stories of Tharwa, Hall, Uriarra, Oaks Estate, Uriarra and Stromlo are woven into the fabric of the national capital, despite their locations on Canberra’s exposed and vulnerable margin. They are re-valued through a series of art projects and the broader community is invited to revisit, explore and rediscover these intriguing places.
Portrait of a Nation: Unmade Edges - Distinctive Places is a Centenary of Canberra project, presented by Belconnen Arts Centre, and proudly supported by the ACT Government, the Australian Government and Principal Partner ActewAGL.
