Haube - the braid arrived :)
Many thanks to Bron, who found matching braid in her stash and sent it across from Adelaide - now I can finish the fine wool Schleier.
Looking at my inspiration painting, it is clear there is a line of braid along the front and rows of braid at right angles. However, the braid must just be at one end, or it would be visible with the second layer of wrapping.
After playing with mockups (scrap fabric and marker pen) I have ended up with banding on one third of the length.
I've basted the braid on and am now sewing it with a fine hemming stitch in gold silk, to minimise stitching on the reverse side (not that anyone will ever see it!).
I was keen to use this specific braid, not only because it was the right scale and I had enough in stash (or so I thought), but because although it is synthetic and a bit glitzy, it is really close to a contemporary weave pattern!
