Sunday was 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, with the theme; ‘𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑡𝑜 𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑢𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝐷𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑝𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑎𝑙𝑠 (𝑆𝐷𝐺𝑠) 𝑓𝑜𝑟, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠.’ Sadly the world is far from achieving many of these SDGs, especially in relation to people with disability.

People with disabilities are NOT a minority group:

-An estimated 46% of older people aged 60 years and over are people with disabilities.
-One in every five women is likely to experience a disability in her life, while one in every ten children is a child with a disability and yet, many still face preventable barriers in everyday life.

NORTH Link is committed to working with its partners to make the world better and fairer for people with disability. Our 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 is collaborating with manufacturers and health providers across Melbourne’s north to help them work together to produce and modify assistive products and technologies. The resulting learning modules, supported by the Victorian Government, will help pave the way for designing and producing new and better tools and equipment to improve the lives of those living with disability.
