I'm delighted to be part of Traces of Home at Lethbridge Gallery this March, alongside Karen Brock, Sarah Waghorn, Joe Whyte Art and Lars Vester Art.

This is my first group exhibition outside of art prizes, and it has been a meaningful opportunity to reflect on place – from growing up a short walk from Wimbledon Common to living near the Brisbane River for more than 30 years.

The exhibition runs 6–24 March, with the opening night on 6 March, 6–7:30pm. Hope you can make it along to the opening.

Last month I took part in a Portrait in Oils three-day workshops at the Royal Queensland Art Society run by Andrew Bonneau. It was a fantastic opportunity to work purely from life, using a traditional approach and restrained colour palette. I learnt a huge amount from Andrew which will help my practice no end.

Our model, Beth, also an artist, did an amazing job posing for the full three days (no small feat!). I didn’t finish during the workshop, so I’ve added the final touches in the last few weeks.

I’ve put together a short transition video showing the progression from the initial drawing, to the detailed study, transfer to canvas, and finally the completed painting. I’ve also included a photo of the portrait set-up from the workshop.
