This is the ingredients list of a tin of ‘premium’ commercial cat food.

As we hopefully all know, cats are obligatory carnivores, meaning they need to eat animal protein.

A cats’ normal prey are small mammals like mice. When cats eat their prey, they eat the whole animal including intestines and stomach contents.

So apart from the muscle meat they eat a small amount of pre digested vegetable matter from the stomach and a little bit of intestines.

So that’s what the diet of a cat should look like - very high in animal protein (not plant protein),
high in moisture, a little bit of organs like liver etc, a tiny bit of plant matter from the stomach so very low in carbohydrates.

I have seen cats hunt mice but I have never seen them hunt or eat corn starch, coconut oil, ground pecan shells (seriously 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️),
cellulose, flaxseed etc.

Why on earth is this stuff even in there?
It’s cheap and unnecessary, even harmful fillers.

Start reading labels people. It’s appalling what the pet food manufacturers put especially in cat food.

And fyi, the first ingredient mentioned has the highest percentage of what’s in the tin.
It should be animal protein for an obligatory carnivore.
It’s a no-brainer, is it not?

EDIT: and for more information on a species appropriate diet for a true carnivore, please go to the Australian Raw Fed Group.

Yes, put some of your worn clothing out, not a litter box. Some myths just won’t die.
