Regional Workforce Management
Margarida came to Australia from Timor-Leste as part of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme with a goal in mind, to save enough for her own car.
When she finally bought it, it meant more than just getting from A to B. It meant freedom, the ability to go wherever she wanted whenever she wanted, something that isn't always easy to come by when you've left everything familiar behind.
Outside of work she's built a life here too. Her weekends are spent at church and with friends, including one from Thailand who's been teaching her to bake. Through that friendship she's picked up new skills and new traditions, the kind of connection that makes a place far from home start to feel like home.
Congratulations Margarida!

It's 2pm and you’re already thinking about tomorrow's 3am shift because you’re five people short again. You've advertised the roles, carried out many interviews and hoped for the best, only for candidates not to show up or disappear after a few shifts.
For many food, agriculture or manufacturing businesses, this is the reality of trying to keep production moving while managing constant workforce shortages.
The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme has helped hundreds of Australian businesses build a stable, reliable workforce for the long term but getting started can feel overwhelming. Labour Market Testing, visas, pre-departure training and culture and welfare support all need to come together and knowing where to begin isn't always obvious.
As Australia's largest approved PALM scheme employer, we've run this process hundreds of times over. So, we mapped the entire journey.
Swipe through to see the first 3 steps, then download the full guide to see how we handle the rest. You'll walk away with a practical roadmap for integrating PALM scheme employees into your workforce to improve retention, reduce turnover and create a more stable workforce.

Ask our Samoan Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme employees at one of our timber clients in Kyneton, Victoria what stood out this year, it'll be the day they raised the Samoan flag on site.
Early last month, the team marked Samoan Independence Day together, raising the flag, singing the national anthem and gifting lei to site management. After the shift, the GM shouted the load out department a meal to mark the day.
Being away from home is hard enough without feeling like you have to leave your culture at the door. Days like this are proof you don't have to, your culture is something to be celebrated here too, not just something you carry quietly while you're far from home.

Today is Solomon Islands Independence Day and we’re celebrating every one of our Solomon Islands Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme employees across Australia.
Being away from home is never easy and today is a chance to celebrate not just Solomon Islands' independence, but the strength and resilience it takes to be here, working hard and supporting your family and community from a distance. The commitment it takes to do that doesn't go unnoticed.
This week, we're celebrating with you through church, music and food, and we can't wait to run events across our sites to mark the occasion. To all our Solomon Islands employees, thank you for everything you give while you're away from home.
From all of us at RWM, Happy Independence Day!

For our cohort of 18 Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme employees from the Solomon Islands, life here goes beyond the job. It's staying in touch with family back home, working out how to send money where it's needed, figuring out how things like seeing a doctor work in a new country.
That's why Mick, our Cultural Welfare Officer, regularly runs health and wellbeing sessions covering culture, finances and health, with support from our health and wellbeing site managers including Shan across our sites in WA and VIC. The group always has plenty of time to ask their own questions too, whatever's on their mind.
Every one of our employees has access to sessions like this throughout their placement, because getting set up here is only part of it. Feeling supported long after, that's what we care about just as much.

When Junina and Melwyn left the Solomon Islands to join the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme with RWM, they were thinking about their families back home, the school fees, the financial pressure, the chance to help carry some of that load.
What they didn't expect was that hockey would end up being such a big part of their year here. A few weeks after arriving, they found a team through their local church, and before long they were training alongside teammates who felt like family. By the end of the year, they were on a plane to New Zealand, representing the Solomon Islands at an international tournament, with RWM and their host employer right behind them the whole way.
Their advice to anyone else starting out on the PALM scheme is simple, find your people, whether that's through sport, faith or whatever community feels right, because that's often what makes a new country start to feel like home.
