Behind the scenes of running an art studio… 😂
It’s 8:55am and I’m sitting outside Spotlight waiting for the doors to open because… I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH DRAGON EYES.
So, if you think I’ve always got my life together… I promise you, I absolutely do not.
This week all my kids are home. Tom’s back from the Army, Harry’s home from the UK, and we’re doing our own little Christmas in July. I’m trying to be the perfect mum while keeping the studio running… and let’s just say it’s a mixed success.
The fridge is almost empty.
We’ve run out of milk.
There’s a mysterious smell coming from the bin that nobody is claiming.
And apparently I forgot to order enough dragon eyes for today’s class.
Real life isn’t always colour-coded planners and perfect Instagram posts. Sometimes it’s a mad dash to Spotlight before 9am, hoping they’ve got exactly what you need!
Anyway… dragon eyes secured. Back to the studio we go!
Tell me I’m not the only one who’s had one of those morning drop me you epic fail below!!
Operation Nook has reached a big milestone today!
Enter my very own Art Technician and IT expert… aka David, my husband ❤️
Today he brought all of the podcast gear into the studio, worked out the technical setup, connected everything together, and we even recorded a couple of dummy runs to make sure it all works.
For someone who happily admits she’s far more interested in paintbrushes than cables, this feels like a huge step forward.
Now that we know the tech is sorted, it’s time for the fun bit… getting everything into its final position, finishing the decorating, styling the space, adding those colourful finishing touches, and making it feel like The Nook.
It’s starting to feel real.
We’re getting closer to a launch date, and I genuinely can’t wait to welcome you into this little creative corner of the studio for honest conversations about art, creativity, teaching, business, and all the beautifully messy bits in between.
Who’s excited to pull up a chair in The Nook? What creative topics would you like hear! Drop me a comment below…
Well… seeing as there are about 3,000 of you who have joined me over the last month (what on earth?! 🤯), I thought it was probably time to say a proper hello.
I’m Karen. Yes… Karen…. I know I’ve heard all the jokes!!! Sadly I can’t help what my mum named me, but I promise I’m one of the nice ones…..unless you cross me then I might ask to speak to the manager 🤣
