Why employees quit Managers, not Companies
Over the years, I’ve seen that the leaders who struggle the most often share some common characteristics:
1. Arrogance: Believing they have all the answers
2. Dishonesty: Losing trust through misleading words or actions
3. Self-interest: Putting personal gain ahead of the team
4. Inconsistency: Creating confusion through unpredictable decisions
5. Micromanagement: Controlling people instead of empowering them
6. Closed-mindedness: Rejecting feedback and new perspectives
7. Lack of empathy: Failing to understand the people they lead
8. Blame-shifting: Avoiding accountability when things go wrong
9. Hypocrisy: Expecting standards from others that they don’t live by themselves
10. Poor integrity: Compromising values for convenience or short-term wins
The best leaders don’t strive for perfection. They strive for self-awareness.
Because leadership isn’t about being in charge, it’s about being worthy of the trust others place in you.
Which of these do you believe causes the most damage to a team or business?

Take me back to the days when it all started.
I founded and launched in 2022 because I felt compelled to give back to an industry where I’ve spent most of my career. Being involved in the building and construction space has been a magnificent journey.Â
Â
The idea was simple yet impactful. Connect people with industry experts. Share the knowledge of those dedicated to the tiling trade and build something that inspires younger generations to pick up a trowel. Strengthen the business of tiling.Â
Â
This labour of love has been an enormous passion project, and I’ve invested countless hours, days, and weeks in creating it.
The experience has been life-changing.
The people you meet and the stories you get to share are amazing. Knowing that, one episode at a time, together we are making a difference in an industry that still imports more than 33 million m2 of tiles into Australia each year.
I am working hard behind the scenes to build an even stronger platform. If you’re not subscribed or following, please join us now.

The Future of the Tiling Industry Is Changing Fast
For decades, success in tiling was built on craftsmanship, hard work, reputation, and relationships. While those fundamentals will always matter, the speed of change happening around us right now is impossible to ignore.
Technology is evolving. Customer expectations are shifting. Social media is influencing buying decisions faster than ever before. New products, systems, and installation methods are constantly entering the market. The businesses and tradespeople who adapt will thrive.
Those who resist change may find themselves struggling to keep up.
What’s interesting is that the future of tiling is no longer just about laying tiles.
Today, tilers are becoming content creators, educators, influencers, business owners, and brand ambassadors.
A tiler with a strong online presence can now build a following, attract premium clients, create partnerships with manufacturers, and generate opportunities that didn’t exist ten years ago.
The next generation entering the industry also thinks differently. They value innovation, flexibility, culture, and purpose just as much as income. They want to work with leaders and businesses that inspire them, invest in them, and help them grow.
At the same time, the demand for higher-quality workmanship and technical knowledge continues to rise. Waterproofing systems, large-format tiles, advanced substrates, and evolving standards are raising the bar across the board.
The industry is becoming more professional, more specialised, and more competitive.
But with change also comes opportunity.
This industry still has enormous potential for people willing to evolve. The companies investing in training, leadership, marketing, systems, and people will become the leaders of tomorrow.
The tilers who embrace learning, communication, and innovation will separate themselves from the crowd.
I truly believe the tiling industry is only scratching the surface of what it can become.
The future belongs to those who are prepared to grow with it.
And honestly, that’s an exciting thing to be part of.
