Melbourne is one of the fastest-growing cities in Australia. We're now home to more than 5 million people, and we're on track to reach 7 million within a couple of decades. That means more homes, more roads, more infrastructure, all of it needed...However, the animals who share this land are still being left out of the plan. This kangaroo was found injured at a construction site, displaced from the place she called home.
The good news: most developers, construction workers, and locals genuinely care. Together, we can build a city that makes room for wildlife too.
What you can do to help:
Ask your local MP to plan wildlife corridors - safe routes that let animals move and escape as land is developed.
Slow down in known wildlife areas. It saves lives.
And to every wildlife rescuer across Australia - thank you. You give these animals a second chance, and that means everything. ๐

๐งค๐ท URGENT CALL FOR SUPPLIES: can you help?
With H5 bird flu now detected in Australia, we're getting ready to care for the wildlife who may be affected.
To keep our volunteers safe while they do that work, we urgently need in-date:
โขโ โ N95 masks
โขโ โ Boxes of inโdate examination gloves
โขโ โ Sanitiser
โขโ โ F10 disinfectant
Supplies are needed quickly so we're ready to respond. Every donation helps us protect both our volunteers and the animals in our care.
โก๏ธ Please fill our the form in our comments below if you can help. ๐
Why now? H5 bird flu has been found in wild seabirds in Western Australia, NSW and South Australia. There are currently no confirmed cases in Victoria, but preparing now means we can act fast for the animals who need us.
Come across a wild bird that's unwell or has died? Please don't touch them or go near their surroundings. Instead, make a note of what you've seen and where, and pass it on to the authorities. You can lodge a report through DEECA's wildlife influenza page or ring the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
It's especially helpful to flag groups of five or more affected wild birds, or even one seabird, waterbird, shorebird or bird of prey on their own. The same goes for marine mammals like seals, sea lions and dolphins.
Together, we can be ready to protect the animals who need us most ๐

Last week, little Billie was thrown from her mother's pouch after her mother was hit by a vehicle. Thankfully, our compassionate volunteers were able to find her and bring her safely into care. ๐ฆ
Sadly, stories like Billie's are not uncommon. Our vets and rescuers respond to situations like this every single day, but with your support, animals like Billie get the second chance they deserve.
Today is the last day of our matched giving appeal. Every donation made before midnight tonight will be doubled, so if you've been thinking about giving, now is the time. A gift of $50 becomes $100, $100 becomes $200, $200 becomes $400.
To everyone who has already donated, thank you! ๐ We have been truly blown away by your generosity and support. ๐
