Our Ridgeline Hybrid:Home achieved an airtightness result of 0.55 air changes per hour a result that exceeds many international high-performance standards. This was achieved using a "plasterboard-as-air-barrier" method, where the internal lining is meticulously sealed to the structure alongside specialised airtight electrical boxes and high-spec lift-and-slide doors that utilise rubber gaskets for a mechanical seal.
To ensure a healthy indoor environment, a Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) system acts as the "lungs" of the home, providing fresh, filtered air while stabilising humidity between 40% and 60%. Externally, the home is protected by a vapour-permeable membrane and a ventilated cavity system that allows the structure to "breathe" and dry naturally, protecting the timber frame from moisture.
By combining these advanced airtight technologies with a focus on longevity, including flush-entry showers and reinforced walls for future accessibility, we’ve created a rural sanctuary that is exceptionally quiet, durable, and energy-efficient.

We recently wrapped up a modern, off-grid take on the classic Australian farm shed at our Ridgeline Hybrid:Home. Designed to catch natural breezes and frame 360-degree views of Mount Alexander, the home runs entirely on solar power and rainwater while utilising fire-resistant materials for its bush setting.
To ensure year-round comfort, we fully insulated under the concrete slab, which stops the cold ground from pulling heat out and keeps the floors warm throughout winter. By having the builder, designer, and engineer collaborate from day one, we were also able to swap expensive steel frames for exposed timber, maintaining the rustic aesthetic while significantly reducing build costs.
The final design perfectly blends indoor and outdoor living, featuring a hidden outdoor kitchen, an exposed shower off the master suite, and flush sliding doors that seamlessly open the house up to the surrounding landscape.

Good design doesn’t impose itself on a landscape; it finds a way to belong.
The Stone Fold Hybrid:Home was a dialogue with the land. By hugging a 12-metre rock face, the design shields itself from southerly winds while inviting the northern sun deep inside. From its FSC-certified timber frame to a 90% construction waste recycling rate, every choice was a lesson in responsibility. This is an all-electric sentinel that gives back to the grid, proving architectural drama and environmental care are one and the same.

High-performance design shouldn't be an unreachable it should be the foundation of the Australian home.
The Stone Fold Hybrid:Home achieved a 9.1-star NatHERS rating, but for us, the stars are secondary to the science. This project is a living test of our Hybrid:Home methodology—a way to bridge the gap between traditional building practices and the rigorous physics of Building Science. By focusing on the "unseen" details—continuous insulation, airtightness at 0.6 ACH, and thermal bridge-free construction—we’ve created a shell that maintains a stable 18–23°C year-round. It is an all-electric, net-positive dwelling that proves we can achieve elite performance without the "elite" price tag.
