here's what no one tells you about booking a holiday home.

you don't do it because you have time.
you do it because you've run out of reasons not to.
you've been saying soon for eight months.
soon when things slow down.
soon when the kids finish that thing.
soon when you feel like you've earned it enough.
and then one night — probably a Tuesday, probably late, probably while doing something completely unrelated — you open a tab.
and something about a house near water with a deck and morning light through the wrong kind of curtains just breaks something open in you.
and you book it before the sensible part of your brain can explain why now is not the right time.
because now is never the right time.
that's not how now works.

I think we book holiday homes because hotels don't let you pretend.
a hotel room knows you're passing through.
a house lets you imagine, just for a few days, that this is your life.
that you wake up here.
that this is the kitchen where you make coffee.
that the view from the back deck belongs to your mornings.
it's a beautiful lie.
and you need it.

so if you've had the tab open.
if you keep looking at the dates and then closing it.
if you've been saying soon —
book it.
not because you deserve a holiday.
because you're a person, not a function,
and the ocean doesn't care about your inbox.
it'll still be there.
it's been there longer than your to-do list.
and it will be there after.
