This week, we celebrate NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the rich history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is also a time to learn, reflect and show respect for the enduring connection First Nations peoples have to Country, community and culture.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and pay our respects to Elders past and present.

Building momentum and bringing villages together. 💙

Our inaugural Inter-Village Games are now underway, with residents from Burton and Winzor villages coming together for friendly competition and connection.

After a small hiccup in the first week, the energy quickly picked up, with Burton residents heading to Winzor for a fantastic pool competition filled with great company and friendly rivalry.

Currently running as a 4-week trial, this new initiative is all about creating opportunities for connection across villages. The vision is to grow the program, form multiple teams and welcome even more villages in the future.

Here’s to good games, great conversations and plenty of community spirit.

A day of connection, learning and plenty of inspiration 🌿

Last month, the Henley Beach Community Garden group headed out to explore three different gardens, connecting with fellow gardeners and discovering new ideas along the way.

At North Brighton Community Garden, Beau and Lisa shared how the space has grown over six years, now featuring a mix of communal plots, individual beds and fruit trees for everyone to enjoy, followed by morning tea and great conversation.

The group was then welcomed to Elizabeth House, where volunteer Tony tends extensive garden beds, with produce used to create shared meals for the local community. It was a special moment to experience the generosity, energy and even a lovely lamb roast for lunch.

The day wrapped up at the Waite Arboretum, where volunteer guides Linda and Jenny shared the history and evolution of the gardens. From rose and sensory gardens to native food plants, healing spaces, a yarning circle and views across Adelaide, there was truly something for everyone.

As one participant shared, it was a “wonderful day… the company, the food, and seeing the incredible things other facilities do.”

👉If you'd like to talk all things gardening, the Henley Beach Community Garden meets at 11 Laidlaw St every second Wednesday at 10am. Join us! Email [email protected] or call 1300 275 324.
