Elder Conservatorium

Open to the community, LUMEN Bar offers a welcoming sanctuary nestled within Illuminate Adelaide's City Lights program. Reimagined each year, LUMEN is a place where great food, live music and creativity come together as part of your Illuminate Adelaide experience.

Adelaide University is a major partner of Illuminate Adelaide, supporting the festival's free City Lights program since its inaugural event in 2021. Each year, the University's North Terrace campus becomes one of the festival's key destinations. LUMEN Bar shines a spotlight on Adelaide University's creative community, featuring performances by Elder Conservatorium students and alumni.

This year's musical theme draws inspiration from London's nu jazz movement (an eclectic blend of jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop and house), brought to life through a rotating lineup of big bands featuring Elder Conservatorium alumni and current students. AU staff and students receive 15% off beverages from 4.00–6.00pm nightly.

Congratulations to Heath Medlock, who was recently awarded the Ethel Cooper Scholarship to support his studies at the Open Music Academy (OMA)!

'I began my piano journey at the age of six and joined OMA two years later, where I have been nurtured ever since. OMA has given me not only dedicated one-on-one lessons, but also inspiring performance experiences and the chance to learn from internationally recognised pianists. Since 2025, studying with Monika Laczofy has been especially meaningful, helping me grow both technically and musically. With her guidance, I was honoured to receive the Ethel Cooper Scholarship this year – an achievement which means a great deal to me and inspires me to continue pursuing my passion. Looking ahead, I hope to study piano at University and explore opportunities overseas. I am truly grateful for OMA's continued support in shaping my journey as a young musician.'
