Alexandra Frost
Last night (yes it's now almost 1am) at Gingers was an absolutely fabulous gig! Beautiful audience, many new faces and many familiar ones too. All there to support quality local music and cabaret. I can't thank you all enough for supporting the Alexandra Frost Duo. Ed's playing was as always truly remarkable. I enjoyed singing every note. A special evening indeed.
We are looking forward to returning on Friday January 30, 2026 and are planning on more regular shows at Ginger's Vintage Lounge Bar next year so we'd love to see you again at another performance. We are also looking at some other opportunities yet to be decided for 2026 so watch this space, follow me here or on Instagram and sign up at alexandrafrost.com/contact/ to our mailing list for the latest news about what's ahead.
The joy of music is something that is always worth sharing and we can never underestimate the power of it to reach us emotionally and make us feel grateful for those who came before us and shaped our love for it. The artists that we honoured last night , all legends, all criticised for something about their voice but they turned this into their signature. What a lesson it is in letting your light shine, no matter what others say. Until next year, keep supporting live music, sing with your loved ones and take the time to remember those who shaped you both personally and musically. As Gregory Porter said, "we are like children, we're painted on canvases, picking up shades as we go".
Tonight is the night for our performance at Ginger's Vintage Lounge Bar and we are excited to bring you a selection of wonderful music and stories from artists who refused to be boxed in and eventually became legendary for the very things that made them stand out.
Stories of Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Gregory Porter & more - woven with my own journey finding my voice and sense of identity.
A few seats still available for tonight at Ginger's.

The voices that refused to fit the mould....
For years, I felt my contralto voice was too deep. Others always seemed shocked by it, some said it had too much vibrato.
Then I discovered voices like Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Edith Piaf among many. Every single one of them faced similar criticisms. They were told their voices or they didn't belong. Nina was too angry. Ella had the wrong look. Edith was told she was too raw. They didn't change. They became legends by refusing to fit the mould.
On November 29 at Ginger's Vintage Lounge Bar, Ed Heddle and I are celebrating the music and stories from artists like this, how they shaped my own life and development and the courage it takes to embrace what makes you different.
From jazz to blues, soul to cabaret, we'll share the music and the stories of artists who transformed criticism or heartache into power and strength. This is for anyone who's ever been told they're "too something." Too loud, too quiet, too different, too much, not enough.
Come experience an evening where authentic voices and vintage atmosphere create something unforgettable.

Here is a little preview of what November 29 sounds like 🎵
This is "Feeling Good" - one of the Nina Simone classics we'll be performing at Gingers. There will be no auto-tune, no backing tracks, no production tricks. Just voice and keyboard, creating something real in the moment.
Here's what you'll experience on November 29:
Ed Heddle and I taking you through the music of many of the great jazz, blues, soul and gospel artists such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin, Gregory Porter, Diana Krall, Tracy Chapman, and Edith Piaf.
Between the songs, I'll share the personal stories - theirs and mine - about finding your voice and identity when the world tells you it doesn't fit conventional expectations or when life throws you challenges.
It's intimate. It's vulnerable. It will make you laugh and possibly cry. It's the kind of evening that stays with you.
