There are lots of traditions around cutting your wedding cake;

From saving the top tier for your first anniversary to the couple feeding each other a slice.

But today, cutting the cake is one of the first activity that the couple get to do together as husband and wife.

And symbolism is that the hand of the groom is placed over that of the bride's, to show his support and as a promise to take care of her and their future - but today as traditions shift and couples can carry them out to best represent themselves.
