Her father and myself, we’ll so bestow ourselves that, seeing unseen, we may of their encounter frankly judge, and gather by Hamlet, as she is behaved, if ‘it be the affliction of her love or no that this she suffers for.

Always loved this moment as Claudis, my Hamlet being a talented actress.

‘The Taming of the Shrew’. A play that constantly torments & challenges me. It is unforgivingly traumatic but as a rule we try to forgive it, finding the wonderful passages, and looking for the comedy. But it is dark & brutal.

I’m guilty of that. I’ve trawled the meanest corners of it, but still played elsewhere for laughs.

Would we perform it the same, if it was not the work of Shakespeare?
