Inktober day 12 / 17 / 21: shredded / ornate / blast

Sometimes we hold ourselves together
with patterns we learned to perfect,
decorating the surface
while hoping no one sees the fractures underneath.

But pressure always finds its way out.
And when it does,
it doesn’t crack gently.
It bursts, it shatters,
it frees what we’ve been carrying for far too long.

This one took me forever to finish.
Every swirl, every curve, every shard.
A beautiful nightmare and honestly,
I’m never drawing this much ornamentation again.
Ever.

We were taught to look sideways,
to measure ourselves against each other,
instead of seeing how much we share.

Every glance became a quiet comparison,
every difference a reason to compete.

But we were never rivals.
We were reflections shaped by the same pressure,
the same small space we were told to fit into.

The world benefits when we turn on each other,
but we rise when we refuse to.
