🎓 A team of researchers from the University of Leicester and the University of Birmingham have developed a new technique for improving the recycling process for electric vehicle batteries. Specifically, the team devised a novel ultrasonic delamination technique that blasts the active materials from the electrodes, leaving behind virgin aluminium or copper.

🚀 The new method is 100 times quicker, greener and leads to a higher purity of recovered materials relative to current separation methods.

The US company Carbon Robotic has developed an autonomous robot that frees farmland of weeds. The “Autonomous Weeder” is fitted with sensors and cameras so that it can detect any obstacles in the field. Beneath the robot are eight CO2 lasers, which are also connected to cameras and sensors.

The recorded images are analysed using AI and the CO2 laser eradicates weeds in seconds. With the gas laser, electricity is conducted through a gas-filled pipe, which generates light. This method is far more efficient than manual weeding and is also sustainable as no chemicals are used.
