Sustainable laundry practices

Washing your clothes at 30°C is typically sufficient, helping to preserve fabric quality while saving energy. For instance, washing at 30°C uses about two-thirds of the energy required for a wash at 40°C. Lower washing temperatures not only benefit the environment but also reduce costs.

Detergents should be biodegradable. In Austria, these are often identified by eco-labels. Follow the recommended dosage on the packaging, keeping in mind that soft water (like in Vienna) requires less detergent compared to hard water.

Avoid using fabric softeners altogether. Instead, baking soda can replace harsh bleaching agents, and a small amount of vinegar works effectively against unpleasant odors.

Finally, significant energy savings can be achieved by air-drying your laundry rather than using a dryer.
