Two violin bows from two distinct eras, each with its own story to tell. A glimpse into the hands and history behind their creation. ✨

Pierre Guillaume, Brussels🎻
Pierre Guillaume, born in Belgium in 1954, is a leading contemporary bow maker of the Brussels school. Trained in the classical French tradition, he established his workshop in Brussels where he continues to work with a strong respect for historical craftsmanship. He is also internationally recognized for his expertise in bow authentication and evaluation, and his certificates are widely trusted by musicians and collectors.

Francois Jude Gaulard, Mirecourt🎻
Francois Jude Gaulard was part of a long standing Mirecourt family of makers and worked under the influence of the Pajeot school in his early years. He later moved to Troyes to work alongside his son Louis Auguste. Gaulard produced a varied body of work using pernambuco, ironwood, snakewood, and other hardwoods, reflecting the diverse materials and methods of mid nineteenth century French bow making.

A cello labeled Jul. Heinrich Zimmermann, Leipzig, early 20th century 🎻

Julius Heinrich Zimmermann wasn’t a single maker, but a renowned publisher and dealer whose workshops brought together skilled German craftsmen. Instruments like this were created with care, then sold under the Zimmermann name, a tradition that gave many musicians their first truly expressive instrument.

Now looking for its next player to continue the story. ✨

Available for viewing in Vienna.

Meet Brendan Goh, founder of Fifth String Fine Instruments.🎻

A Juilliard-trained cellist with a Master’s degree in Performance, Brendan’s career has taken him across concert halls and studios around the world.

Having performed on multiple fine cellos, he developed his senses towards identifying the soul and character of each instrument.

Fifth String was born from this relationship between artist and instrument: a place where craftsmanship meets understanding.
