images don't do justice to the primordial forces present at the edge of an active volcano. although etna's lava chambers luckily had emptied before our arrival, the crater lost nothing of its awesome impression. what a farewell to etna and the . caspar would have liked the view.

four years after initially touching bases with , we finally touched down on mount etna.
for the next three weeks, I'll accompany researchers and engineers atop the active volcano for the demo mission simulating autonomous lunar exploration.
