On World Brain Tumor Day, we emphasize the growing importance of metabolism and mitochondrial research in advancing our understanding and treatment of brain tumors.
Martell et al. used high-resolution respirometry to characterize glioblastoma cells with a mitochondrial metabolic phenotype. Patient samples following temozolomide and radiation therapy showed increased respiratory activity, revealing a potential metabolic vulnerability that could be therapeutically targeted.
Studies like this deepen our understanding of how metabolic rewiring and mitochondrial function shape brain tumor progression and open new avenues for targeted therapies.
