Never At Home
01/06/2026
Join us on Saturday 6 June, from 1.30-4pm, for the first installment of listening, sounding, sensing, a new series of open vocal practice sessions developed by artists Helena Dietrich and Helena Sanders, presented within the exhibition Room Tone.
Free entry, but limited capacity. Register via [email protected]
No experience necessary, every body is welcome :)
About the session:
The voice is a transductive medium: one that receives, translates and transforms.
Making sound as well as receiving it is not the isolated responsibility of the vocal chords and ears, but a process of the entire body, nervous system, and memory, working in chorus.
Voice is as political as it is personal. Throughout history, certain forms and emotional expressions of vocality (such as wailing, screaming, giggling, growling) have been censored, particularly when they arise from women and marginalised bodies. This suppression can even express itself physiologically; it can make us sick. Conversely, the practice of collective singing, tuning and listening has the potential to support our bodies and our communities.
Drawing on eco-somatic principles of Deep Listening practice following the work of Pauline Oliveros, the paricipants will explore the voice as an embodied technology, becoming resonant sculptures and collective soundscape, connecting within space, ourselves and others, and with the more-than-human world.
