The First Altcoins: How Did Namecoin and Litecoin Appear?
When people talk about cryptocurrencies, most people remember Bitcoin. It was Bitcoin that became the first successful digital currency and laid the foundation for the entire blockchain industry. The United States has returned to the idea of creating a Bitcoin reserve.
A new bill called the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026 (ARMA) has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The document proposes establishing a legally regulated strategic Bitcoin reserve under the management of the U.S. Treasury.
ARMA would create a strategic Bitcoin reserve within the Treasury structure and separate repositories for other digital assets.
The bill also includes quarterly public reserve reports; independent audits; congressional oversight. Bitcoin held in the reserve would have to remain untouched for at least 20 years, and sales would only be allowed for reducing national debt.
The proposal also reinforces the rights of U.S. citizens to own digital assets, self-custody them, and transfer them without restrictions.
ARMA builds on President Donald Trump’s March 6, 2025 executive order establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve. At that time, authorities ordered confiscated BTC from criminal and civil cases to be transferred into the reserve.
It is also worth noting that on May 19, Trump signed an executive order aimed at integrating digital assets into the traditional financial system and revising rules governing crypto companies’ access to payment infrastructure.
