PepsiCo has officially announced that it will remove all petroleum-based synthetic dyes from Doritos and its other snack chip brands, marking a major shift toward safer, cleaner food ingredients. This decision follows growing consumer awareness and mounting research linking artificial dyes to cancer risks, hyperactivity, and other health concerns.
Petroleum-derived dyes such as Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6 have been under scrutiny for years due to their potential toxicity and disruptive effects on the body’s natural chemistry. These additives, commonly found in brightly colored snacks, beverages, and candies, have been banned or restricted in several countries, including the UK and parts of Europe.
By eliminating these dyes, PepsiCo aims to align its products with global health standards and rising consumer demand for transparency and natural ingredients. The company plans to replace synthetic dyes with natural colorings sourced from vegetables, fruits, and spices like paprika, turmeric, and beet juice—preserving flavor while prioritizing health and safety.
This change represents a powerful step toward cleaner food manufacturing and corporate responsibility. It sends a strong message to other major brands to follow suit, proving that consumers’ voices can drive real change in the food industry.
