🔎Training to monitor river plastic pollution in

As part of the BeMed+ project, our local partner INCA Albania recently carried out the second monitoring session on the Shkumbin River in Elbasan.

Back in September 2025, Surfrider Foundation Europe and INCA Albania trained members of a local tourism business founded by Kayak&Rafting enthusiasts (Albanian Sports and Tourism Association), together with local stakeholders, to apply the OSPAR river monitoring methodology.

In Mars, the monitoring session was organized in collaboration with the Municipality of . Schools and local communities were also engaged, with students actively taking part in the monitoring process.

Based on citizen science, the river methodology empowers citizens, students and institutions to contribute directly to environmental data collection.

The day combined scientific monitoring and a clean-up action, raising awareness among local citizens and encouraging stronger advocacy to prevent river pollution, particularly from single-use plastics.
