Married to Ravana, Mandodari was the queen of Lanka. Considered as beautiful, pious, and righteous, her name is extolled as one of the Panchakanya ("five virgins"), the recital of whose names is believed to dispel sin.

Dasharatha, king of Ayodhya and descendent of the Ikshvaku dynasty, he performed the Putrakameshti yajna to beget sons. It was him who granted Kaikeyi, his second wife, the two boons, using which she demanded Lord Rama’s exile and Bharata’s crowning as the king.
