Dr. Behavior

Hello everyone and welcome to my page. I am Michael Abarca, a Behavior Analyst (BCaBA), special educator, and a nurse.

I have finished my bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a master’s in Nursing Service Administration. I have also done BCaBA course sequence in University of West Florida (USA) and Diploma in Special Education in Ajman University (UAE). Furthermore, I have attended numerous trainings that tackled Mental Health, Pharmacology, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Special Education to name a few.

I have almost a decade of experience working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA); 6 years of which I have been working as an Assistant Head of the Department at the Department of ABA in Al Noor Rehabilitation and Welfare Association for People of Determination - one of the oldest and biggest non-profit special needs school in Dubai, UAE. Some of my responsibilities working in Al Noor include:
- Handling and supervising 60-70 students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Creating and executing crisis management protocols
- Supervising and training staff employed in my department
- Training staff members from other department on ABA and Makaton Sign Language
- Administering Skills Assessment Tools such as VB-MAPP and ABLLS-R
- Creating individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with challenging behaviors
- Contributing in the generation of Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) of students, etc.

Apart from managing severe and challenging problem behaviors, I am also expert on providing parent/caretaker training either face-to-face or on any online platforms; as much as I find joy working with my students, I am extremely passionate on training and collaborating with parents and caretakers. I am very eager on bringing positive change in the lives of my students, their families, and the community surrounding them.

Presently, I am engrossed in designing (and hopefully materializing) apps for students with ASD. I see myself pursuing this for the next years of my career aside from doing a lot of engagement with my audience here in my page.
