SUMMER 2024: A Collage of Style and Tradition at DIOR

Kim Jones, the artistic director at DIOR, presents his fifth-anniversary collection, merging influences from the brand's predecessors and eras. Drawing inspiration from the silhouettes of Yves Saint Laurent and the embroideries of Gianfranco Ferré, Jones creates a mechanical garden of 'hommes fleurs,' blurring the lines between femininity and masculinity, tradition and subversion.

In this collection, Jones intertwines his own autobiography with the histories of DIOR, combining British tailoring traditions with haute couture savoir-faire. The result is a fusion of crisp modernity, practicality, and luxury, where iconic menswear items like the Harrington, the polo, the crew neck, and the cardigan are elevated through symbolic techniques such as tweeds, embroideries, and the signature cannage pattern.

Saint Laurent's tailoring legacy shines through in relaxed masculine suiting, summer ensembles, and sweeping coats, while shoes take inspiration from the iconic Lady Dior bag with circular logos on heavy-soled loafers and slides. A variety of bags, ranging from fluorescent saddles to utilitarian tweed rucksacks, add a touch of extravagance to the collection.

Stephen Jones reinterprets fashion new wave beanies, incorporating exquisite velvet flowers known as 'Ronghua' from China's Tang Dynasty. These flowers, transformed in collaboration with the DIOR ateliers, celebrate both tradition and the elegance of today.
