Nkayi inducted its 2026 Junior Council on 20-21 March 2026, the induction was facilitated by Ministry of Local Gvt & Public Works Officials Mr S Maganyana & Mr D Mapfupi. A total of 28 Junior Councillors were inducted, 19 girls and 9 boys drawn from across Nkayi district schools. The induction was held under the theme :Youth driven governance - "Benchmarking service delivery towards the attainment of vision 2030". Induction ended with the elections of Junior Councillors Leadership. Cutegirl Ndlovu (F) - Chairperson , Maureen Mlilo (F) CEO & Shelton Maisiri (M) Vice Council Chairperson . Committee chairpersons are Nomuhle Bhebhe (F) Child Protection Committee, Lesley Hadebe (F) Finance Committee, Siphosihle Masuku (F) HRAC, Reward Moyo (M) RWPC & Thandolwabo Mpofu (F) heading the Environment Management Committee. The induction was graced by the presence of District Development Coordinator Mr. T Moyo, Council Chairperson Cllr. E Nkomo, Gender Champion Councillor C Gwayi, Councillor N Mtambo, MOPSE officials, Teacher mentors, ZRP, World Vision Officials who funded the induction program and Council executive.

On March 18, 2026, Nkayi District commemorated International Women's Day at Mtshatshane Primary School under the theme "Rights. Justice. Action. for all Women and Girls". Various stakeholders and community members attended the event. The solidarity speeches from numerous stakeholders touched on subjects such as women in sports, drugs and substance misuse, ZRP women's network, women's health, applications to drill, and borehole registration, among others.

Youth of Nkayi District (in school and out of school) together with the Gorvenment Departments, Faith based organisations, community being led by the DDC's office, Min of Youth and the Local Authority took part in a clean-up campaign which also addressed the issue of "Drug and Substance Abuse".The youth of Nkayi are saying "NO TO DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE" they are special (they will not take drugs).Help us to keep our youth clean and safe from Drug and Substance Abuse.

World Wetlands Day commemoration at Kafurafura Ward 1
Under the theme “Amaxhaphozi lolwazi lwesintu: ukuthokozelela ilifa lamasiko ethu”, the community was empowered on the ecological, cultural, and economic value of wetlands.
Going forward, plans are in place to protect and rehabilitate the wetland, with strong emphasis on curbing Stream Bank Cultivation (SBC) through community cooperation. Encouragingly, community members showed eagerness and commitment to safeguard the area after understanding the importance of wetland conservation for present and future generations.

Nkayi Government Departments collaborated with World Vision to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, under the theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”. Commemorations were conducted in Wards 17 and 12 at Mdlawuzweni Primary and Skhobokhobo Primary School.
