Angry Birds

The protagonist in The Angry Birds Movie is Red. His defining feature isn't his feathers—it's his temper. While everyone else on Bird Island is chirping happily, Red wakes up every morning already halfway through an argument.

And if we're honest... we all know a few Reds.

I've often wondered whether some people got offended while they were still in their mother's womb. They arrive in the world already irritated.

Before they've even brushed their teeth, they're ready to declare war.

The slightest provocation? Explosion.

A harmless joke? Personal attack.

A different opinion? Mortal combat.

They walk around like they're permanently auditioning for the role of "Chief Defender of Everything."

Nothing is funny.

Everything is offensive.

They seem to survive on making everyone else feel small, while expecting the world to tiptoe around them.

Life is already difficult enough. Must we make it harder by carrying anger like it's part of our identity?

Don't be Red.

Smile a little.

Laugh at yourself once in a while.

The world doesn't need another permanently angry bird.

It could use a few more happy ones.

Sunday Thought: Meekness

"Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth." — Numbers 12:3 (KJV)

Occasionally I have come across people who genuinely fit this description.

Moses was extraordinary. He split the Red Sea, called down plagues on Egypt, performed miracles, brought water from a rock, led a nation out of slavery, climbed Mount Sinai, and spoke with God face to face. Few people in history can match his résumé. Yet the Bible describes him as the meekest man on earth.

That is remarkable.

I have seen friendships change the moment someone gets a little money. I've watched people become inaccessible after buying a car, building a house, or achieving a measure of success. Suddenly, greeting them feels like requesting an audience with royalty.

What impresses me most, however, are those who have genuinely succeeded in life yet remain humble. They are approachable. They treat everyone with dignity. They don't need titles, status, or possessions to feel important.

God has always placed a high value on meekness. Jesus said:

"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." — Matthew 5:5 (KJV)

Meekness is not weakness. It is strength under control. It is having every reason to boast, yet choosing humility. It is achieving greatness without losing your humanity.

Moses teaches us that the higher God lifts you, the lower your heart should bow.

Stay humble. Stay teachable. Stay accessible. Be like Moses.

Fortune Favors the Brave

I witnessed an interesting altercation this afternoon while I was sunbathing. It reminded me that some of life's lessons appear when we slow down long enough for us to notice them.

I digress.

The standoff was between a crow and a turtle dove over a few grains of corn scattered in the yard.

The crow arrived first. Bigger, bolder, dressed in his mortician's black suit, he looked every bit the undisputed owner of the meal. Then the turtle dove landed. Smaller, gentler, almost elegant. I expected it to keep its distance.

Instead, it assessed the situation and walked straight to lunch.

The crow, already mid-meal, clearly hadn't expected such confidence from a much smaller rival. Before I knew it, he had taken off in full flight towards the trees—perhaps more out of surprise and confusion than fear—leaving the dove to enjoy the feast alone.

It reminded me of a Shona proverb: "Matanda makuru mazungunuswa." When collecting firewood, don't be intimidated by the biggest logs. Shake them. You may find they are already dry, ready to become firewood.

How often do we deny ourselves opportunities because they look too big, the competition too strong, or the odds too intimidating?

Many of the giants we fear are standing on confidence more than substance. Sometimes all it takes is the courage to step forward.

Don't be timid.

Go after what you want.

The opportunities you think belong to someone else may simply be waiting for someone brave enough to claim them.

Fortune favors the brave.

Solomina

You prepared us for your departure, yet nothing could have prepared us for the pain of losing you.

I still find myself asking why. Why did you choose not to fight longer? I remember the endless battles to get you to take your medication. We pleaded, we argued, we hoped. You knew the medicine could have given you more years, yet somehow you had already made peace with leaving. Maybe you were so lonely and we never connected enough for healing to happen.

And that is what breaks my heart.

Why did you leave your beautiful children so soon? Who will love them quite the way you did? Who will comfort them with your warmth, your laughter, your presence? Did you ever realize how much you mattered? Did you know how deeply you were loved?

Because you mattered.

You mattered to your children. You mattered to Mom. And you mattered to me. You mattered to the family, and your so many friends.

I carry memories of your smile, your gentle spirit, and the deep love you gave so freely.

I remember you as a little girl, my little sister who believed in me, who looked up to me, who was always proud of me. Even as adults, whenever I visited, your face would light up. You would tell people about me with such pride, as if my victories were your own.

Who is going to brag about me now?

Who is going to smile that smile?

Who is going to light up when I walk through the door?

Life was not always kind to you. You lost your mother, Tamary, far too young. I often wonder what your life might have been if she had lived to guide and protect you. Then your father was taken too soon as well. Perhaps there were wounds in your heart that never truly healed.

You suffered things no child should ever endure. You were failed by people who should have protected you. You were failed by guardians. You were failed by society. Perhaps i too failed you. Justice never came for when you were actually abused.

Others tried to corrupt you, to teach you wrong, to fill your heart with bitterness. Yet somehow, despite everything, you remained kind. You remained loving. You remained that smiling girl who could still bring warmth into a room.

I know life weighed heavily on you. I know there were battles you fought silently. Battles that began long before many of us understood them. Sometimes I think life simply exhausted you.

But life did not deny you everything.

You found love. You had a husband who loved you. You were blessed with two beautiful children. You gave and received love, even in the midst of your struggles.

You were not perfect. None of us are.

But I believe life wounded you deeply, and you carried burdens that would have broken many others.

Today I choose to remember not your struggles, but your heart.

The sister who smiled. The sister who cared. The sister who showed up. The sister who loved.

Thank you for every memory. Thank you for every laugh. Thank you for every moment you made us feel loved.

My heart aches because I was not ready to say goodbye.

Farewell, my dear sister Solomina.

May you find the peace that sometimes escaped you in this life.

May you rest in the loving arms of those who went before you.

And may your beautiful smile live forever in our memories.

Until we meet again, little sister.

Fly high.

I love you. Always. ❤️🕊️

Alarmists

A story is told of Chicken Little, a small chicken walking through the forest when an acorn fell from a tree and landed on her head.

Without stopping to investigate, she immediately concluded:

"The sky is falling!"

She ran through the forest spreading the news. Along the way she convinced a duck, a goose, a turkey and several other animals that disaster was imminent. Fear spread quickly. Everyone was running. Nobody was thinking.

The only problem?

The sky wasn't falling.

It was just an acorn.

The story may be old, but Chicken Little's descendants are everywhere.

You know them.

A child sneezes and suddenly it's a medical emergency.

A rumour appears on WhatsApp and civilisation is ending by lunchtime.

Every issue is urgent. Every setback is a crisis. Every cloud signals the apocalypse.

The strange thing is that most of the terrible things they predict never actually happen.

The danger is that panic is contagious. Spend enough time around alarmists and you start seeing problems where none exist. You become anxious, reactive and exhausted.

A useful life skill is learning to distinguish between a genuine emergency and somebody else's overactive imagination.

Not every delay is a disaster.

Not every rumour is a fact.

Not every acorn is a falling sky.

Stay informed. Stay alert. But stay calm.

Sunday Thought: The Moses Blessing

"Moses was 120 years old when he died, yet his eyes were not dimmed, nor had his naturalforce abated." — Deuteronomy 34:7

There is something deeply powerful about this scripture. Moses did not merely live long; he lived well. At 120, his vision remained clear, his strength remained intact, and his purpose remained unwavering.

Today, I speak the Moses Blessing over your life.

1. The Blessing of Clear Eyes

Moses' eyes did not dim. What a gift it is to see clearly—to wake up and behold God's creation with healthy eyes.

I pray for healing over every eye condition, every weakness, every visual affliction. May God touch your sight and preserve your vision. May your eyes not dim before their time. May you continue to see the beauty, opportunities, and blessings God places before you. God heal your eyes

2. The Blessing of Vision and Purpose

Vision is not just natural seeing. Beyond natural sight, may He give you spiritual sight—the ability to discern His hand at work even when circumstances seem unclear.

The Bible tells us that where there is no vision, people perish.

Many become discouraged not because God has abandoned them, but because they cannot yet see what He is building through their struggles. Moses reached the end of his journey with clarity. He knew who he was, whose he was, and what he had been called to do.

Today I pray that God sharpens your vision for your life. May confusion give way to clarity. May doubt give way to purpose. May you see beyond today's challenges and into tomorrow's promise.

May you never wander aimlessly. May heaven illuminate your path.

3. The Blessing of Strength

Time has a way of weakening the body, but Moses stands as a testimony that God can sustain a person beyond natural expectations.

His strength was unabated.

I pray that this same blessing rests upon you.

May your body be strong. May your mind be strong. May your spirit be strong. May your heart be strong. May you possess resilience in adversity and courage in uncertainty.

May you not be overcome by fear, despair, or hopelessness. May your mental faculties remain sharp. May your faith remain steadfast. May your latter years be marked by dignity, vitality, and wisdom.

As this Sunday unfolds, may the Moses Blessing locate you and your family:

Clear eyes. Clear vision. Unfailing strength.

May your eyes not dim. May your purpose not fade. May your strength not fail.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
