POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS' POSITION ON THE SENATE RESOLUTIONS OF 5 MAY 2026

FREE EDUCATION AS LAW;
The future of our country is brighter with Free Education now established as law.

Education completely transforms the mindset of a person, and the transformation of a country depends on the mindset of its citizens. A nation filled with educated people becomes a nation driven by vision, innovation, hard work, and development.

In communities where illiteracy is high, development is often slow because many people fail to appreciate progress. Some end up hating those who are succeeding, calling hardworking and successful people witches and wizards instead of learning from them. Complaining becomes easier than building.

Education changes this mentality.

People become responsible for their own personal development. Many go to school hoping to be employed, but once educated, their mindset changes, they begin to create employment opportunities for others instead.

Education is also a great equalizer. Whether one comes from a rich or poor background, there comes a point where only qualification, competence, and achievement matter. No matter how connected someone may be, certain opportunities are earned through excellence. The best graduating students deserve recognition. Certain positions require Grade 12 certificates, diplomas, degrees, or PhDs. At that level, it is no longer about where you come from, but what you have achieved.

The full effects of this policy may not be visible within the first 15 years, but the long-term impact it will have on our land will be remarkable and transformational.

We therefore call upon parents and guardians to take this as a golden opportunity to send all their children and dependents to school. In many cases, children may need guidance and even encouragement to attend school, especially in some rural communities. As they grow, they eventually understand the value and importance of education.

Today, we sincerely thank the President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND UPND government for this bold and powerful move of making Free Education a law for the people of Zambia.
